File Management: The 4 D’s

File Management:  The 4 D’s

When going through the paper that comes across your desk and or Control Center use the 4 D’s to help you organize.

  1. Dump

What can you throw out or recycle immediately?

  2. Delegate

What can you have someone else do?  (Then it goes in their file and on their “to do” list)

  3. Designate

What can you file right away?  (In a specific Action File, in the “To Be Filed” file, in the Reference Binder, or in an electronic file — by taking a picture and saving digitally)

  4. Do

What can you put on your “to do” list immediately?  What can you put on your calendar right away?  What can you do right away?
